Camping on the river:
While on the river, whether with an outfitter or a private party, you will have campsites designated for your group by the Forest Service. You will apply for specific campsites for each night of the trip at the ranger office when you launch. If you are floating in a private party, be sure to choose campsites that are appropriate for your group size. Because each party is given a specific camp for every night of the trip it is important to carry maps of the river and know where you are so as to not miss your campsite. If you are traveling with an outfitter, the guides will take care of the campsite reservation process.

Campsites are undeveloped and have no permanent facilities, so everyone must be their own janitor. Once in camp, keep in mind that you are in a wilderness area and use Leave No Trace techniques. If you drop food or trash pick it up and put it in trash containers. Everything is packed in and packed out, included human waste, so be sure to use the specified toilet system. If you are using soap to wash be sure to wash above the high-water line and use biodegradable soap. If you want to have a fire, you must use a fire pan so as to not leave burn marks on the ground. If you are with an outfitter, they will have established systems to streamline camp life to the leave no trace approach.

In short, be respectful of the wildlife, the plant life, the whole ecosystem, and all those after you fortunate enough to experience the magic of the Middle Fork.
